What is the Atlantica BioEnergy Task Force?

The Atlantica BioEnergy Task Force is comprised of regional government, industry, federal and regional organizations and post secondary institutions.  The group  has come together to better understand what opportunities may exist and are supported by a world class team from  PricewaterhouseCoopers who will systematically examine  opportunities in the area of wood-based BioProducts while considering sustainable use of resources, current regional operations, maturity of new technologies, the current regulatory environment and the economic impact.

 

Why is there a need for the task force and this study?

The global forest industry is rapidly changing and we believe that every stakeholder has a responsibility to look for environmentally sustainable ways to best use our wood-based resources in the future.

 

Who started the Task Force?

The Task Force is an evolution of discussions that have been taking place between stakeholders in the industry for some time.  To date there have been other studies and other discovery conversations.  This is the first to involve such a diverse cross-section of industry, government and academia.

What do you expect the study to reveal?

The possibilities of the study are endless.  We are talking about a potential new green energy and chemical source developed through the use of world-class technology on a base of environmental sustainability.  We are confident the study will outline opportunities that will open new export markets, create new jobs, including rural economic development, and will be something all citizens can support.

 

When will the study be completed?

The study is expected to be completed before the end of the year.  It will culminate with a Leaders' Summit and a Research and Development Forum that will explore how to take the opportunities identified in the report and turn them into tangible business opportunities in this region. tunities in the area of wood-based BioProducts while considering sustainable use of resources, current regional operations, maturity of new technologies, the current regulatory environment and the economic impact.
